Useful.

Everything has a purpose. A human problem to solve. Down to the finest details. Because good design shouldn’t leave anything behind, it’s thorough and has a reason for being. There is no design for design’s sake.

Built to Last.

When something has been designed well. It doesn’t need anything new, there is no obsolescence - it doesn’t dominate or take over. It lasts. Better for the environment, better for people.

The 10 Principles of Good Design by Dieter Rams

Hired as an architect for redesigning Braun’s office Dieter Rams became one of the leading designers, who developed Braun’s memorable design language and defined the 10 principles of good design, a design manual that is still relevant today.

1 Good design is innovative.

The possibilities for innovation are not, by any means, exhausted. Technological development is always offering new opportunities for innovative design.

2 Good design makes a product useful.

A product is bought to be used. It has to satisfy certain criteria, not only functional, but also psychological and aesthetic. Good design emphasises the usefulness of a product whilst disregarding anything that could possibly detract from it.

3 Good design is aesthetic.

The aesthetic quality of a product is integral to its usefulness because products we use every day affect our person and our well-being. But only well-executed objects can be beautiful.

4 Good design makes a product understandable.

It clarifies the product’s structure. Better still, it can make the product talk. At best, it is self-explanatory.

5 Good design is unobtrusive.

Products fulfilling a purpose are like tools. They are neither decorative objects nor works of art. Their design should therefore be both neutral and restrained, to leave room for the user’s self-expression.

6 Good design is honest.

It does not make a product more innovative, powerful or valuable than it really is. It does not attempt to manipulate the consumer with promises that cannot be kept.

7 Good design is long-lasting.

It avoids being fashionable and therefore never appears antiquated. Unlike fashionable design, it lasts many years - even in today’s throwaway society.

8 Good design is thorough to the last detail.

Nothing must be arbitrary or left to chance. Care and accuracy in the design process show respect towards the consumer.

9 Ο καλός σχεδιασμός είναι φιλικός προς το περιβάλλον.

Ο σχεδιασμός συμβάλλει σημαντικά στην προστασία του περιβάλλοντος. Διατηρεί τους πόρους και ελαχιστοποιεί τη φυσική και οπτική ρύπανση καθ' όλη τη διάρκεια ζωής του προϊόντος.

10 Ο καλός σχεδιασμός είναι ο σχεδιασμός με όσο το δυνατόν λιγότερα στοιχεία.

Είναι πιο μικρός, αλλά καλύτερος - επειδή επικεντρώνεται στα βασικά χαρακτηριστικά και τα προϊόντα δεν επιβαρύνονται με μη απαραίτητα στοιχεία. Επιστροφή στην καθαρότητα, επιστροφή στην απλότητα.

Μπλέντερ Braun Multimix

Η δεκαετία του 50 εδραίωσε το μιλκσέικ ως βασικό αγαθό του δυτικού κόσμου, του υπερσύγχρονου μπλέντερ με αποσπώμενο γυάλινο δοχείο ανάμειξης. Κόβει τα συστατικά με αποτελεσματικότητα βιομηχανικού επιπέδου. Χρησιμοποιείται ευρέως ακόμα και σήμερα.

Ένα καθοριστικό μπλέντερ, όπως ονομαζόταν τότε, που δημιούργησε μια εντελώς νέα κατηγορία προϊόντων: τα πολυμηχανήματα. Με τον απλό και χρήσιμο σχεδιασμό του, ήταν ένα από τα πιο καθοριστικά βιομηχανικά προϊόντα όλων των εποχών.

Ο απόλυτα μινιμαλιστικός σχεδιασμός: ένας μύλος καφέ με τόσο εξειδικευμένη κατασκευή που λειτουργούσε μόνο χάρη σε ένα κεντρικό κουμπί. Λεπτοαλεσμένοι κόκκοι με ένα μόνο κλικ.

HT 2

Ο κομψός, συμπαγής σχεδιασμός αυτής της φρυγανιέρας ενέπνευσε σε τέτοιο βαθμό τον διάσημο καλλιτέχνη Richard Hamilton που βάσισε σε αυτήν ένα από τα έργα του (με τον εύστοχο τίτλο «Φρυγανιέρα»). Και, επίσης, έφτιαχνε υπέροχο φρυγανισμένο ψωμί.

KF 20

Με κλιμακωτό, κάθετο σχεδιασμό που έμοιαζε με πύργο νερού, η KF 20 ήταν γνωστή ως Aromaster. Αυτή η καφετιέρα, άμεσα αναγνωρίσιμη για το αντισυμβατικό της σχήμα πρόσθεσε κάτι το ασυνήθιστο στον καθημερινό καφέ φίλτρου.

MPZ 22

Αυτός ο ηλεκτρικός αποχυμωτής Citromatic υπήρξε ένα αξιόπιστο και εξαιρετικά εύκολο στον καθαρισμό εργαλείο κουζίνας σε όλο τον κόσμο εδώ και δεκαετίες. Χρειάστηκαν δύο δεκαετίες για να αποφασίσει η Braun να ενημερώσει το σχέδιο.

Πρόδρομος του πιο εξελιγμένου MR 500, το MR 6 ήταν στιβαρό και ανθεκτικό, καθώς μπορούσε να πολτοποιεί τρόφιμα που άλλα προϊόντα δεν μπορούσαν. Ένα σημαντικό εφαλτήριο στην πορεία για την τελειοποίηση του μπλέντερ χειρός.

KF 40

Αυτή η καφετιέρα ήταν κάπως αμφιλεγόμενη για την Braun, καθώς κατασκευάστηκε από πολυπροπυλένιο αντί για πολυανθρακικό. Γι’ αυτό, η κυματοειδής επιφάνεια της KF 40 αντιπροσωπεύει μια λύση σχεδιασμού που προτίμησε ο Dieter Rams.

Hier sehen Sie das Modell KM 3-31 von 1957. Die Entwicklung des KM 3 begann mit dem Entwurf eines Versuchsmodells zur Ermittlung der am besten geeigneten Drehzahl für den Antrieb. Nach umfangreichen Misch- und Knetversuchen konstruierte das Entwicklungsteam die Antriebseinheit. Für die Form des KM 3 entwickelte die Konstruktionsabteilung verschiedene Modelle von Grundplatte, Schüssel, Rührarm und Motorfuß, die mit der Technik kombiniert wurden, bis das erste Vorserienmodell, der Wistar, entstand.
