What’s the minimum and maximum capacity I can boil?

The minimum and maximum water capacity a kettle can boil is represented on the water window or gauge of the kettle. To maintain your kettle in a safe environment, do not boil under or over therecommended units.

Is it normal for there to be steam emission around the switch of the kettle?

A little steam emission is normal in many kettles. If this is excessive, please contact the Kenwood customer experience department.

Why is my kettle noisy?

All kettles regardless of manufacture will make a noise whilst boiling. The noise level is determined by the power rating, the body material and the shape. A 3KW kettle in stainless steel willalways have anoisier operationthanalowpowerplastictype. Your kettle will get noisier as it reaches boiling point. Once your kettle has boiled the noise will abate. If your kettle is older, descaling the kettle may reduce the noise.

How often should my kettle be de-scaled?

Every few months in hard water areas or if obvious scaling has taken place. Scaling of the element will shorten the life of the product.

How do I descale my kettle?

Accepted Answer

To prolong the life of your new kettle, descaling should be carried out on a regular basis. The frequency required will depend on your water hardness. If you have particularly hard water (see the map on the right), we would recommend the kettle is descaled every month. For very soft water areas we would recommend that you descale your kettle every three months. Care should be taken with proprietary kettle descaler as these could damage the surface finish of the kettle. Please ensure you follow the instructions carefully. If you do not want to use a proprietary descaler we would recommend a solution of one part white vinegar and two parts water. Switch the kettle on, remembering to switch it off just before the boiling point. Leave the solution in the kettle for a while, dependant on the severity of the scale inside and then empty the kettle. Refill with fresh water, boil, empty and repeat this process once more. Your kettle can now be used. If you have missed a descale it may be worth leaving the solution overnight.
